A District of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland
STRUCTURE OF THE ORDER
This is the governing body of 300 representatives drawn from County Grand Lodges together with one representative from each District.
County Grand Orange Lodges
These are composed of representatives drawn from each District in the County. There are 12 County Grand Lodges.
Antrim, Armagh, Belfast, Cavan, Donegal, Down, Fermanagh, Leitrim, City of Londonderry, Londonderry County, Monaghan and Tyrone.
These are composed of representatives from each Private Lodge in the District. There are 125 District Lodges based on a geographical area.
There are 1400 of these. This is the power base of the Institution and every member must belong to a Private Lodge.
Each of the the above groups operate in a formal business manner, with a chain of command, including annually elected officers, some of which have more grander titles than other organisations may use. In many ways the Institution is driven from the bottom, from the private Lodges, where members meet more regularly and organise more local events.
to popular opinion, private Lodges are more likely to spend time
discussing Orange Hall renovations and dinner dances than organising
rallies and protests!
