© Newtownards District No.4
Newtownards will host the Twelfth demonstration for the first time in four years in 2018, welcoming Orangemen and women, along with their bands from other three neighbouring districts.
All Newtownards lodges and their bands are requested to be at the Orange Hall for 11am. Districts 11, 14 and 18 will assemble at Londonderry Park.
The parade will be led by Loughries True Blues LOL 1948 and William Strain William Lightbody Memorial Flute Band. No 4 District officers and the lead lodge/band will form up in West Street to parade up towards the Orange Hall at 11.30am. As the district passes the hall the remaining lodges and bands will fall in behind them in the usual numerical order. The parade route will be as follows:
Mary Street, Mark Street, Marquis Street, Talbot Street, Upper North Street, North Street, Frances Street, Zion Place, Georges Street.
(Districts 11, 14 and 18 will be formed up at the lights on Portaferry Road and will fall in behind no 4 district as we pass.)
Parade will then continue Portaferry Road, Castle Street, High Street, Mill Street, Frederick Street, Regent Street, Frances Street, Zion Place, Upper Movilla Street, Queen Street, Upper Greenwell Street, New Road, Portaferry Road and into Londonderry Park via the first entrance. Any cars/buses in the procession should continue past the roundabout and enter via the entrance at the pavilion.
Cars and Parking
Any cars or buses in the parade will require an official permit. There will be limited car parking available at the pavilion car park and only permit holders will be allowed in. Permits can be obtained from the District Secretary Bro Mark McIlroy PDM.
All other vehicles are requested to make use of the many public car parks around the town centre although we would recommend that people arrive early in order to obtain a space as we anticipate big crowds in the town that day.
The demonstration field at Londonderry Park will be an alcohol free zone and this will be enforced by the PSNI. There will be a good selection of food outlets, stalls, rides and bouncy castles in the field as usual. Permits for traders can be obtained from the District Treasurer Bro Les McAuley.
There will be a demonstration of traditional lambeg drumming in the field prior to a religious service at 3.15pm. The guest speaker will be Wor Bro Rev Ron Johnstone Grand Chaplain GOLI.
All lodges and bands are requested to be back in the field for 4pm.
The parade will form up after the conclusion of the platform proceedings and proceed along the path exiting the park where we came in. The parade will then proceed via Portaferry Road, Castle Street (against the traffic), High Street, Mill Street, Gibson’s Lane, Regent Street, Frances Street to the junction with Castle Place where no 4 district will split ranks to allow the visiting districts to pass through and parade to their buses (Districts 14 & 18 buses will be on Bangor Road; District 11 buses on Upper Greenwell Street).
No 4 district will then reform and parade Frances Street, Castle Place, High Street into Conway Square. Following the prize giving and playing of the national anthem the parade will disperse.
All relevant information will be posted in due course on the District website:
It will also be posted on the District’s Facebook page. We would request that anyone on Facebook would like this page and invite their friends to like it as well. In a first for the North Down Combine we are hoping to stream the main parade live on Facebook and would request that as many as possible share this video at the end of the day to increase publicity for the District.
First aid cover will be provided by St John Ambulance and they will have a number of ambulances and personal along the route as well as a first aid post within the demonstration field.
