Banner Series - LOL 240

Continuing our look at banners carried by Newtownards lodges, part 4 of our series looks at L.O.L 240 Rising Sons Of William.

This lodge number can be traced back to the year 1848 and the lodge is steeped in tradition, being among the last of the local lodges to regularly carry lambeg drums at the head of their ranks.

The lodge banner displays King William crossing the Boyne on his white horse.

On the opposite side, there are four images on display representing different branches of the lodge ethos. A local landmark, the Old Market Cross is depicted, as is the bible and crown. A biblical scene shows the sowing of the seed, while the last image is, perhaps not surprisingly, a pair of lambeg drums captioned 'Ulster's sound of freedom'.
