Banner Series - LOL 1952

Looking further at the banners carried by the lodges in our District , we turn to LOL 1952. The Ex-Servicemen's lodge were formed in 1948 by members of the armed forces returning from the Second World War.

It is that founding principle that has been a mainstay on all of the banners the lodge has walked behind since their formation. The current banner was unveiled in 2019 at a dedication ceremony in Newtownards Orange Hall.

King William III, astride his white horse is shown crossing the River Boyne on one side of the banner. The reverse image depicts the Normandy landings of 1944. Inset against the main painting are the portraits of three servicemen, representing the army, navy and air force branches.

Annually, LOL 1952 organises the service of remembrance that is held on 1st July and also marks VE Day with a parade each year. The lodge is unique within the town, for operating its own lodge band.
