Banner Series - LOL 1363
Part five of our local banners series turns to look at Greenwell Street LOL 1363.
This lodge can be traced back to the 1830s and at one time met in a private house in the street it takes its name from. The lodge is unique in the District as being the only one still to erect its own arch.
It is this arch that is the main painting on the lodge banner. The scene shows the lodge parading underneath the arch, which stands in what is now Upper Greenwell Street. An interesting quirk of this design is that there is an image of the lodge banner on the banner itself!
The reverse image depicts William of Orange crossing the River Boyne on his white horse.
