Banner Series - LOL 1054

The 12th and final part of our banner series looks at Boyne LOL 1054.

This lodge dates from some time in the 1820s and holds the honour of providing Newtownards' first District Master, James Boal.

The banner that the lodge currently walks behind dates from 1997 and depicts William of Orange crossing the River Boyne. The reverse side shows three local images: Scrabo Tower, the Town Hall and the Old Cross. This banner is unique among local lodges in that it carries an Ulster-Scots inscription: Borough of the New-town of Ards.

Since 2007, the lodge has carried a smaller bannerette on parade that depicts the martydom of Latimer and Ridley.
